SwimBowen Training Series
Prepare yourself for a great ocean swimming race for an even greater cause
SwimBowen is a community event with all proceeds benefiting the SwimBowen Society supporting Bowen Islanders in active cancer treatment. This training series has been designed specifically to support SwimBowen competitors who are newer to open-water swimming and want to gain confidence in participating in a race event.
This year’s race course features two distances: 500 metres (recommended for novice swimmers) or 1,000 metres (recommended for experienced swimmers). Whatever your experience level in swimming outdoors, this training series offers important skills and knowledge to maximize your safety and overall enjoyment of race day.
This three-session training series will cover the essential elements of open-water swim racing:
• Acclimating to the open-water environment
• Using proper breathing techniques
• Applying open-water orientation skills and sighting
• Race awareness such as swimming in a pack and buoy turns
• Practicing efficient swim technique
With this training being offered well in advance of race day, you will have plenty of time to apply your newfound skills and prepare yourself for the event on July 20, 2019.
