Intro to Outdoor Climbing

Learn to climb while taking in breathtaking scenery

Rock climbing is a thrilling sport that requires an ability to learn to trust yourself and others. It provides both physical and mental challenges that will propel you outside of your comfort zone resulting in personal growth and increased strength.

In this introductory class, the emphasis is on being safe while having fun. You will learn:

• The safety features of a harness
• Knot-tying skills universally used throughout the climbing world
• Required climbing gear
• How to communicate with your climbing partner
• How to belay your climbing partner
• Rope management such as lowering your partner on top rope
• Fundamental climbing technique

At the end of the day, we celebrate your achievements with a beverage at one of Bowen’s favourite locals hangouts.

Physical ability

All adventurers need to be in good physical health in order to fully participate. When selecting your adventure, please make sure you have read through the description carefully and assess your ability to cope with the activities involved. Please note that if, in the opinion of the instructor, guide, or coach, any participant is unable to complete the itinerary without undue risk to themselves and/or the rest of the group, Bowen Island Adventures reserves the right to exclude them from the adventure without refund.

Medical and travel insurance

Emergency Medical Insurance for this activity is strongly recommended for all out-of-province participants. When selecting a travel insurance policy it is recommended that at a minimum you are covered for medical expenses, including emergency repatriation. For multi-day events, we suggest the policy also covers personal liability, cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage and personal effects. We recommend Covermore by Manulife Insurance for Canadian travellers.
